I
usually avoid doing prints in black & white. I feel that you have to be able to “see” in
a special way to make good black & white photos. But when your subject is snow and shadows, you have
little choice. This little piece of wind-blown snow lay by the side of the road. I was
intrigued buy the shape and the perfect little stick in the middle. Luckily it was a very sunny day which
made the shadows very dramatic. This print won the first place award at the Herkimer County Community College
show.

My
other offering in the black & white category is the back of my filthy car. I have taken photos of the
dirt on my car before but my photography instructor suggested that I include an element of the car in the photo.
Of course, he was right.
